55 Fiction Friday: Globe & Mail edition

Friday does the crossword in pen.

Reading the newspaper and finding a name you know is disconcerting. Your brain sort of hiccups, and your heart races. Then, disbelief: it couldn’t POSSIBLY be X, it must be someone who has the same, unique name. Recognition: wow, I really do know them! And, finally, a feeling of being one-step removed from fame. Star-f*cker.

This was Shane's reaction exactly when he found a CD at Barnes & Noble, bearing the name of the girl he used to practice with in the basement of the music dorm during freshman year of college... "No one else I know would spell her name Norah," he said. :)

Brilliant! That is how I felt when someone I know recently published a book...and I don't understand how. You got that order of hiccup-and-heart-racing down terrifically.

I use "starf*cker" in everyday cursing (with the "u") now, because of you! So here is all the credit due to you for expanding my swearing vocabulary! ;)
